MSI GT70 gaming laptop kindly updated with GeForce GTX 675M graphics

MSI GT70 gaming laptop kindly updated with GeForce GTX 675M graphics

We sure hope you like surprises, because we've got a good one for you. It seems as if MSI wasn't quite pleased with the killer graphics on its feature-loaded GT70 laptop and decided to give it a quick boost. Earlier today, the outfit announced its fresh gaming machine will now ship with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 675M GPU instead of that already powerful GTX 670M found in our review unit. MSI says the change was driven by the company's beliefs that "exceptional performance starts with outstanding components," and, needless to say, we're certain you'd agree. In case you've yet to grab one of these for yourself, you can do so at the source below.

In-app payment support arrives on Android

Right on cue, Google has launched in-app payment support for Android applications. Developer testing began last week, and now many popular apps -- like the ones pictured above -- can begin charging users for add-on functionality, content, or whatever the heck else they feel is worthy of additional bits of your pocket change. If you were wondering, Google will take the same 30% cut that Apple takes from in-app purchases.

At last we can buy individual issues in Comics with minimal fuss!

Amazon Appstore for Android Test Drive hands on: surprisingly cool, but still US-only

Amazon Appstore for Android Test Drive
When Amazon Appstore for Android launched last week, one of its primary features -- Test Drive -- was disabled just a few minutes after it opened. With no try-before-you-buy, no refund process, and 1-Click purchasing ready to strike at any moment, this caused some problems. Anyway, don't despair: Test Drive is now enabled.

Before you get your hopes up, Test Drive doesn't work with every app. The IMDb app works fine -- you can even watch movie trailers on it! -- but the Angry Birds games are sadly not enabled. Some games work surprisingly well, though, like Bubble Buster. There's very little latency, and the framerate is really rather good. The Test Drive experience is so true to life that you even get ads; how cool is that?

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE review

HTV EVO 4G LTE

The Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE is a great phone on a less-than-great network.

There. We said it.

That's not an easy way to start a review of a phone. Nor is it necessarily fun for us to say. It's simply the way it is.

This should come as no surprise to Sprint aficionados. Heck, it pretty much mirrors what we just wrote about the Sprint Galaxy Nexus. Great phone, so long as you don't need speedy mobile data. That's going to change in the next month or so, at least for folks in a half-dozen cities, as Sprint fires up its 4G LTE network, and it'll change for even more by the end of the year. And Sprint's 3G data should get a boost, too, all part of its Network Vision initiative. But for now, you've got an EVO 4G LTE without the 4G LTE, and oft-slow 3G data.

But is that really fair to the phone? To the follow-up to arguably one of the greatest Android smartphones we've seen? To the phone that launched the 4G era? (Never mind that Wimax is going the way of the dinosaurs.) The original EVO 4G was an important phone, for damned sure the EVO 4G LTE is. At least for Sprint, if not for Android as a whole.

So that's the question: Is the phone good enough to warrant a purchase even if the network's not yet measuring up? Let's get into it in our full EVO 4G LTE review.

Internet Explorer 9 nears 4% share on Windows 7, IE6 extinction countdown picks up steam

internet explorer 9 ie9
Microsoft has shared some news about the state of its most and least loved Web browsers -- Internet Explorer 9 and 6, respectively. Even with IE9 only recently exiting beta, Microsoft reports that 3.6% of Windows 7 users are now running the new browser (no mention of Vista... what's with that?). The post also reveals that the adoption rate is almost five times what IE8 garnered in the early going.

It's also interesting to note that there are now more than 1,000 sites utilizing Internet Explorer 9's Windows 7 integration features -- like the new desktop notification support we showed you in Hotmail.

But perhaps the best news of all is that Microsoft's IE6countdown.com now has more than 400 partners and is generating nearly two million pageviews per month, helping to lure users away from the woefully out-of-date browser. Can the end come soon enough, DS readers?
